On Saturday March 6th, 2010, an 'Inside Ride' will be held at U of G. The ride is a fundraising event hosted by the Coast to Coast for Cancer foundation . The foundation brings 30 state-of-the-art stationary bikes to a location where 30 teams of 6 people participate in an indoor biking relay race. Each individual rides as fast as they can in 10 minute intervals to heart-pounding, uplifting music, and the cheers of his/her teammates. Real time data is collected by each stationary bike and streamed to overhead TVs so the teams can see how they're doing. Along with fundraising goals, teams and individuals with the most kilometres covered are celebrated at the end. Each rider will be required to pay a nominal fee of $10 to participate and the goal is that each rider will obtain a minimum of $50 in donations.
Now you are probably wondering what is the Coast to Coast for Cancer? It is a foundation set up with the goal of creating a series of high quality, physically challenging, national and regional events to raise needed funding for worthy childhood cancer charities whose programs improve the survival rate and quality of life of children impacted by cancer.
The Inside Ride is part of a larger fundraising initiative by OVC's own small animal surgeon & assistant professor- Dr. Tom Gibson, as he will be participating in the Sears National Kid Cancer Ride taking place September 9 - 23, 2010. He will ride his bike across Canada, from Vancouver to Halifax in only 15 days! As part of the commitment to the ride, he must raise a minimum of $25,000 to support the very worthy cause.
