Once again, the OAC Weeds Team has achieved top honours at the annual Northeastern Weed Science Society’s Collegiate Weed Science Contest. Coached by Clarence Swanton (Plant Agriculture), one graduate and four undergraduate teams represented the University of Guelph in Blacksburg, Virginia, and competed against teams from Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Cornell, North Carolina State, Penn State and Virginia Tech.

All students participated in weed identification, herbicide identification, farmer problem-solving and sprayer calibration. For the 4th consecutive year, Guelph’s undergraduate team won the contest, striking a record of 13 first-place wins since 1983. This year, the graduate team placed third out of nine.
