Guelph, Ontario, November 2, 2010 – Eleven undergraduate students have recently been selected to represent the University of Guelph at the 2011 Agri-Marketing Conference in Kansas City.
“The new 2010/2011 Canadian Agri-Marketing Association (CAMA) student team members were chosen for their passion for agriculture and interest in marketing and communications,” says Elizabeth Schouten, student chapter president.
This team will work to develop a full marketing plan for a chosen agricultural product and present their plan in competition against other agriculture college teams from across North America at the Kansas City, Missouri conference hosted by the National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) next April.
This year’s University of Guelph representatives are Anne Borgijink, St. Mary’s, Ontario; Rebecca Hannam, Guelph, Ontario; Erin Harris, Creston, British Columbia; Leigh Hudson, Kinburn, Ontario; Sarah McIntosh, Embro, Ontario; Rebecca Richards, Caledonia, Ontario; David Schouten, Richmond, Ontario; Elizabeth Schouten, Richmond, Ontario; Cara van Burck, Star City, Saskatchewan; Ben Versteeg, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; Rachel Weber, St. Mary’s, Ontario.
The team is made up of students from a range of areas of study including Agricultural Business, Organic Agriculture, Marketing Management, and Agricultural Economics. Prof. Andreas Boecker, Department of Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics, is the team’s faculty advisor and will be working with the team as they choose an agricultural product, conduct market research, write a marketing plan and prepare a presentation for the competition.
“We are an eager and hard working group of students,” says Schouten. “And we look forward to representing the University of Guelph on an international level in Kansas City in the spring.”
The Ontario Agricultural College at the University of Guelph is home to one of only two Canadian student teams.
CAMA is a network of agricultural marketing and business professionals with chapters across the country. Visit www.cama.org for more information.
